DANCE TO BELONG: A History of Dance at 92NY

For more than a century, 92NY has been a home for dancers, choreographers, and educators who shaped American modern dance. Its history lived in archives, press clippings, and personal memories — but never in one place.

That changed with Dance to Belong. Envisioned by Jody Gottfried Arnhold and created to celebrate 92NY's 150th anniversary, the exhibition gathered rare photographs, programs, film footage, and ephemera to tell the complete story — showing how 92NY became a space for artists to explore identity, community, and meaning, often when few others would open their doors.

The exhibition's physical run has ended, but its impact remains. This digital archive preserves its images, stories, and context, ensuring that the history — and Jody's vision in bringing it together — will continue to inform and inspire.
