The Upper East Side Israel Emissary Class Series

Overview

Join UES Shlicha (Israeli Emissary) Dagan Shimoni for his 92NY debut in his limited series on all things Israel.

In this class we return to the basics, expanding the terminology, narratives, and historical background that continue to shape our understanding of the State of Israel. Providing an opportunity for anyone interested in finding out more about Israel and a space to ask and reflect on questions that they have had on their minds and didn’t know who to ask. Spots are limited so do not miss out on this fantastic class.

Monday October 20th 2025:

The Middle East has long been at the crossroads of civilizations, religions, and global politics. This course offers a clear and accessible exploration of the history of Israel and the broader Middle East, tracing the region’s complex past from ancient empires to modern-day conflicts.

Students will examine the historical foundations that shaped today’s realities, including the rise and fall of empires, colonial legacies, the creation of modern states, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the shifting role of global powers. By placing current events in their historical context, this class equips learners with the tools to better understand both the roots of conflict and the possibilities for peace.

Monday November 10th 2025

Through a balanced and analytical lens, students will examine Israel’s role in regional power struggles, its relationships with neighboring states, its strategic partnerships with global superpowers, and the impact of international institutions and alliances. The course will also explore how energy, technology, religion, and security intersect to shape Israel’s foreign policy and global influence.

Designed for learners ready to move beyond introductory material, this class emphasizes critical analysis, contemporary case studies, and the connections between local conflicts and global trends.
