Writing Poetry with Molly Peacock: Inspiration from the New York Public Library
Writing Poetry with Molly Peacock: Inspiration from the New York Public Library

Overview

Poetry with Molly Peacock: Inspirations from the New York Public Library is a four-part online class with a fifth, optional in-person visit to the Berg Collection at the New York Public Library to examine manuscripts, ephemera, and letters. We will use the following examples to inspire us: a manuscript with edits of Julia Alvarez’s poem “33,” an early holograph notebook/notepad of Edna St. Vincent Millay, and several letters between Cid Corman and Lorine Niedecker, containing Niedecker poems. Peacock will show how edits, notes, and back-and-forth written conversation can inspire ideas that coalesce into stanzas and lines. This is a studio-workshop, with time to write in class. All are welcome, from established poets to first-timers.

Schedule:

  • Class 1: Alvarez
  • Optional in-person visit to the Berg Collection: March 9, 2pm
  • Class 2: Millay
  • Class 3: Niedecker
  • Class 4: Participant Draft Showcase
