Across America, bedrooms sit untouched — walls still covered in posters, clothes folded neatly in drawers — silent memorials to children lost to gun violence.
All the Empty Rooms is a 33-minute documentary from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Joshua Seftel (Stranger at the Gate). The film follows CBS News correspondent Steve Hartman and photographer Lou Bopp on a seven-year journey visiting families who have lost a child, photographing each child’s room as it was on their last day. These “sacred spaces frozen in time” form an intimate portrait of grief, love, and the enduring need for empathy.
Rejecting politics for shared humanity, the film invites audiences to see what unites us, not what divides us. “Firearms are now the leading cause of death for children in the United States, and we as a nation are failing.” “This film is a starting point for a much larger conversation, one rooted in empathy and shared humanity.”
Join a conversation with Seftel, Hartman, and Gloria Cazares — mother of Jackie Cazares — one of the children killed in the Uvalde school shooting and co-founder of Lives Robbed, a nonprofit working toward safer communities for all children. Through its lens of compassion, All the Empty Rooms asks what remains when love endures, and what must change if we are to protect the next generation.
