Over the past decade, Silicon Valley has undergone a quiet, radical transformation. Once celebrated as the epicenter of innovation and progress, it has increasingly become a crucible for reactionary politics, techno-authoritarian fantasies, and an alarming consolidation of political power. In Gilded Rage: Elon Musk and the Radicalization of Silicon Valley, journalist Jacob Silverman traces how the cultural mythology of the tech founder — brilliant, contrarian, untouchable — has curdled into something far more dangerous. Through campaign donations, algorithmic manipulation, and increasingly overt alliances with far-right ideologies, the Valley’s influence has moved from shaping our tools to shaping our politics.
Join us for a conversation with Silverman and tech critic Paris Marx as they explore the rise of what some have begun to call “technofascism.” This is not just about Elon Musk, though he is a central figure — it’s about a broader shift in the tech industry’s self-conception, one that merges libertarian grievance, nationalist nostalgia, and deep technological power. Together, they'll examine the resentments fueling this transformation, the media and platform dynamics that enable it, and what democratic institutions must do to confront it before it hardens into a new political status quo.
