Recanati-Kaplan Talks

What’s Next for Israel, Gaza, and the Middle East

Keren Yarhi-Milo, Jack Lew, and Nadav Eyal

Oct 30, 2025

On October 13, 2025, a pivotal moment arrived: in a US-brokered Gaza cease-fire, Hamas released the final 20 living Israeli hostages, and more than 1,900 prisoners were freed from Israeli detention. The return of loved ones to their families, and the exchange of prisoners long held, mark a watershed in this conflict — but they also launch a new chapter full of daunting questions.

Exactly two years after the terror attacks of October 7, 2023 — the deadliest assault on Jewish people since the Holocaust — the region stands once again at a crossroads. What shape will the cease-fire take? Who will govern Gaza — and with what legitimacy? Will Hamas relinquish its arms? What remains ahead for diplomacy, reconciliation, and justice?

Join us for a deeply informed, illuminating conversation with three distinguished voices:

  • Keren Yarhi-Milo, Dean of Columbia’s SIPA and co-founder of the Institute of Global Politics
  • Jack Lew, former US Treasury Secretary, White House Chief of Staff, US Ambassador to Israel, and Columbia SIPA professor
  • Nadav Eyal, Senior Research Scholar at Columbia SIPA and one of Israel’s most respected public intellectuals

These experts will explore not only what has changed, but also what comes next, and what it means for Israel, for Palestinians, and for the broader world.

This program is part of 92NY Recanati-Kaplan Talks.
Presented in partnership with Columbia University’s Institute of Global Politics and 92NY.
