Join Spark Your Health for a thought-provoking panel discussion about the documentary Your Roots Are Showing with the director of the film and experts in the field regarding shifting perspectives on beauty, aging, and the health risks versus rewards that come along with the simple act of dying ones’ hair.
On the panel, the Filmmaker, Ilise Harris, will be joined by the Founder of Silvering Beauty, Alexis Eizinas, Naturopath for Pure Essentials, Melissa Crispell, and Spark Your Health director, Katera Kapoor.
Like many of us, Ilise Harris came out of Covid observing how the world had changed. During the pandemic, with salons closed and priorities shifting, women were forced to confront their gray roots. This, in part, accelerated a trend that Harris believes will lead to the normalization of gray hair for women and girls of any age. In Your Roots Are Showing, she shows us how we got here, and why it matters.
Amplified by a passionate online community called Silver Sisters, this next-wave feminist movement offers freedom from chasing the roots, and an escape from the toxicity of hair dye. These women had a revelation; Silver hair is beautiful and has nothing to do with old!
Using historical references, striking visuals, and interviews with beauty insiders, Harris introduces the audience to a diverse, smart, and insightful group of women. Sharing their “hairstories”, they reject an outdated but entrenched beauty standard. Confronting family, friends, co-workers, and society at large, they land us firmly at the crossroads where feminism disrupts sexism and ageism.
The film is more than an exposé on the question of “What is beautiful?” It invites us to consider this movement as a stepping stone toward a more inclusive, healthier, and happier place of self-acceptance.
