Through 92NY’s High School Literary Arts program, students consider the place of poetry in everyday lives, poetry as an outlet for reflection and healing, and how to find the language to express yourself. Students have had the opportunity to meet acclaimed poets, such as Hanif Abdurraqib and former US Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, in an intimate setting to delve into the craft and impact of poetry. In addition to these special events, a corresponding in-school residency program brings expert teaching artists, accomplished writers in their own right, into the classroom to work in collaboration with partnering English teachers. Through these sessions, students are introduced to the work of selected contemporary authors and generate their own writing in response. 92NY’s School Engagement in the Arts department is proud to showcase this student work in the Anthologies found below.
