Great fiction often feels effortless, but behind that ease is a series of deliberate, invisible choices. In this workshop, you'll learn to see those choices, and start making them with greater intention.
We'll read widely across contemporary fiction, including work by George Saunders, Zadie Smith, and Jhumpa Lahiri, using each story as a lens for examining the craft elements that make it work: character, setting, narrative urgency, and more. Then we'll bring those same tools to your own writing and your classmates'.
Workshop is at the heart of this course. You'll read and respond to work by your peers, developing the kind of close critical attention that strengthens not only your feedback, but your own prose.
If you're serious about your writing and ready to go deeper into the work, this course is for you.
Students are chosen by Omer Friedlander on the basis of a manuscript submission. View the submission guidelines and submit an application for this class - submission deadline is extended to June 15 at 5pm!
