Beginner Wax Carving
Beginner Wax Carving

Overview

Learn the fundamentals of wax carving, an ancient technique that remains at the core of creating sculptural forms in jewelry, and of today’s jewelry manufacturing. This comprehensive class will introduce different types of waxes and files, the use of burs and gravers, and clean up and precision finishing techniques. Projects include carving a heart in wax, an endearing shape that teaches beginners how to create compound curves while maintaining consistent wall thickness. Then you progress to creating a ring, either a signet-style or with a bezel setting. Resources for where to cast your pieces will also be shared.
