This workshop offers a unique opportunity for dancers, dance educators and choreographers to explore the works of Isadora Duncan, with a focus on the later works rooted in social protest and collective expression. Each session will begin with a technique class followed by a deep dive into selected works created between 1917 and 1923. Together, we will closely examine the original choreography and artistic intent, then reimagine these works through a contemporary lens—drawing connections to today’s social landscape and personal narratives. Duncan once said that she never taught her students to dance but rather asked them to appeal to their spirits. In this approach, we aim to renew and expand this vision of self-empowerment, infusing these historic works with 21st-century insight, energy, and purpose. Resources and educational materials will be provided.
