Writing Poetry with Timothy Liu: Enjambment
Writing Poetry with Timothy Liu: Enjambment

Overview

How do we decide where to best break a line, whether or not to end stop lines with punctuation or to enjamb them without any? In this workshop, we shall first take a look at many examples from antiquity to modernity, considering poems by the likes of Sappho, Shakespeare, Keats, Dickinson, Whitman, Pound, Williams, Moore, Glück, Hass, Olds, Hejinian and Howe to name just a few, exploring work that spans the gamut from traditional to radical forms, including prose poems. We will then workshop participant poems, considering possibilities for where to best break one’s lines and stanzas.
