Art of Staten Island Day Tour with Cathie Behrend
April 14, 2027
8:45 AM-5 PM
Price: $275
Join public art expert Cathie Behrend for an art-filled journey exploring the hidden treasures of Staten Island.
Traveling by private coach from 92NY, we’ll begin at Staten Island Borough Hall, a historic landmark built in 1906 and home to the borough’s remarkable collection of WPA murals by Frederick Charles Stahr. The murals vividly depict pivotal moments from Staten Island’s history.
From there, we’ll continue to the tranquil Snug Harbor Cultural Center, where we’ll tour the grounds and enjoy a boxed lunch amid the beauty of the New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden. Stroll along bamboo-lined paths, discover waterfalls and koi ponds, admire Chinese calligraphy and encounter an array of gongshi, or scholar’s rocks.
Our final stop is the Alice Austen House, the former home and studio of the pioneering photographer and a designated National LGBT+ Historic Site. Austen created more than 8,000 photographs, many offering a distinctive view of women’s lives, relationships and everyday experiences during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Before returning to 92NY, enjoy sweeping views of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge from the house’s waterfront garden.
This experience includes transportation, admission fees, guided tours and a boxed lunch.
Rain date: April 16

Support 92NY’s Mission
The 92nd Street Y, New York (92NY), is a world-class cultural and community center where people from all over the world connect through exceptional conversations and performances, opportunities for self-improvement, and activities and classes for all stages of life. Each year, 92NY provides nearly $2 million in scholarship support and access to arts education for more than 50 New York City public schools. For over 150 years, we have harnessed the power of arts and ideas to enrich, enlighten, and change lives — and the power of community to repair the world.
To help support this important work, we suggest a tax-deductible donation of $5,000 for participants in our travel programs. Your generosity helps ensure that 92NY can continue to serve and inspire our diverse community for generations to come.
