Buy individual artist-grade tubes. Holbein, Winsor & Newton or Graham Recommended. Good Budget sets are Turner (regular gouache, no acryla-gouache)

Essential Colors: All colors can be mixed from these three colors plus white.
Permanent / titanium white*
Quinacridone or permanent rose*
Pthalo blue or cobalt turquoise*
Permanent or Cadmium yellow light*
Flame red or Cadmium Red Light
Ultramarine Blue

Optional Colors
Ivory Black
Yellow Ocher
Burnt Umber
Pthalo Green

Brushes: Most short handle synthetic brushes work well. Budget pack brushes are fine
I like Princeton Velvet touch brushes.

Flats are most important: ¾” wide, ½”wide, ¼” bright/flat
Rounds: #6. Optional: a small #1 and a larger size as #20 or #12.

Palette: Ceramic, tin or plastic.
I like mijello fusion airtight folding palette or stay wet wells such as this.
A white ceramic plate dedicated to paint only is a decent budget option.
Ceramic wells or 1 oz airtight deli cups with lids are also nice 

Paper:
Best papers for gouache are smooth heavy papers. My favorites are:   (arches pink cover or 140 lb watercolor pad or block hot pressed or NY Central hot press (gold cover 140lb) or Saunders cold pressed
9 x12, 7x10 or 11x14 is a good size.

White artists or drafting tape ½”
2 cups for water
pencil as 2H or HB
Eraser
Small travel plastic spray bottle (to keep colors wet)
Paper towels
