Netflix’s Best of the Best: Cast and Creators in Conversation

Sep 10, 2026

Join us for a conversation on Netflix’s new dance-based comedy Best of the Best, with stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Priyanka Kedia, Hasan Minhaj, Ankur Rathee, and Chaneil Kular, director Lena Khan, and co-writer and producer Prashanth Venkataramanujam, moderated by journalist and podcast host Reshma Gopaldas.

A joyful coming-of-age comedy, Best of the Best follows Maya (Ramakrishnan) and Anjali (Kedia), childhood best friends who arrive at UCLA and plunge into the raucous, hypercompetitive world of collegiate Bollywood-fusion dance. Their sights are set on the US championship — but between grueling rehearsals, fierce rivalries, new relationships, and the general chaos of growing up, getting there will test far more than their choreography. Co-written by longtime collaborators Minhaj and Venkataramanujam and directed by Khan, the film draws inspiration from the real-life Bollywood-fusion dance circuit. But at its heart is a story about friendship, sisterhood, ambition, and the exhilarating — and occasionally mortifying — business of figuring out who you are.

Gopaldas sits down with the cast and filmmakers to get behind the scenes of the film: bringing Bollywood dance to an American audience, balancing musical spectacle with comedy and tenderness, and making a coming-of-age story for the ages.
