For decades, Bill Ritter has been one of New York’s most trusted and beloved journalists.
Following his recent announcement that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, the longtime WABC anchor joins Allison Gilbert, host and curator of 92NY’s Connected Lives series, to lead a deeply personal conversation about facing the diagnosis and the role connection and support can play during a serious health challenge.
Together, Ritter and Gilbert will guide a conversation with acclaimed actor and longtime Alzheimer’s advocate David Hyde Pierce; Maria Shriver, founder of The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement at Cleveland Clinic; and Dr. Scott Small, Director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at Columbia University and newly appointed Director of the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Aging Brain. Together, they’ll explore the fear and uncertainty that can accompany Alzheimer’s, its impact on those living with the disease and their caregivers, and the importance of asking for help. Memory loss can disrupt relationships and deepen isolation, making connection and community more important than ever.
This candid and hopeful discussion will explore how relationships and support can sustain us through life’s most difficult chapters, help address this crisis of community, and ensure that no one has to face Alzheimer’s alone.
Connected Lives is 92NY’s signature conversation series exploring how we build meaningful relationships in today’s world. The series is inspired by the remarkable life of Dr. Ruth K. Westheimer and her final book, The Joy of Connections, co-authored with Gilbert and Pierre Lehu.
