Intro to Beaded Jewelry III

Bring standard beading supplies: scissors, tape measure, cloth to work on, beading awl, needles, threads, silk or nylon, beading wire, etc. clear nail polish, etc. plus supplies needed for project. Beads may be semi-precious, pearls, glass, ceramic, etc. Bring photos, samples or sketches of design ideas. 

SUPPLY LIST:

PROJECTS All will be discussed in 1st class.

Weeks 1 & 2 Multi-strand necklaces (and/or bracelets) 

Planning, design and construction 

  • Beads: 3 strand necklace will require at least 5 - 16" strands of beads 

  • Stringing materials of choice 

1st week will focus on design decisions, materials, length, technique 

2nd week will focus on construction. 

Weeks 3 Lariats: several design strategies 

  • Beads: equivalent of 4 16" strands of beads plus some larger, heavier beads for the bottom of the strands. 

Week 4 & 5 Necklace with Tassel 

May be single strand or multi-strand with tassel 

  • Bead assortment - some smaller beads needed for 

  • tassel with slightly heavier beads on the ends 

  • a large holed bead for tassel strands to go thru 

(other options to be discussed)
