Intro to Jazz Improvisation
Intro to Jazz Improvisation

Overview

Expertly led by renowned jazz educator Ed MacEachen, this workshop guides musicians of different levels to hone their improvisational skills and learn new tunes in a relaxed environment!

Held on the Upper East Side, the class aims to teach the modes of the major and harmonic minor scales and how they apply to improvising over jazz standards. Part of each class is devoted to improvising over easy standards and jazz tunes such as "Autumn Leaves," "Black Orpheus," and "Blue Monk." Some music reading capabilities is a must. Bassists, guitarists and pianists should be able to read chord symbols at a minimum and others should be passable readers. Class culminates in a final performance.
