The magic of musical theater doesn’t only happen when the curtain goes up. In this workshop, kids experience everything involved in creating and performing in a show, from casting to final production. In these musicals, just as in a professional show, only one child is cast in the lead role. All other participants join an ensemble, and everyone will have the opportunity to try out for roles the first three weeks of the semester. Regardless of role, every student experiences the teamwork and camaraderie involved in putting on a show through production-based weekly rehearsals, gaining valuable skills in collaboration, problem solving, and communication, as they build self-esteem in a warm and supportive environment. The workshop culminates in a performance of a fully produced musical for family and friends on the weekend of January 22 - 24, with every child performing, and showcasing every student’s creative journey.
