Printmaking: Dry Point Etching
Printmaking: Dry Point Etching

Overview

Explore drypoint etching, a direct and tactile printmaking process in which you draw into a metal plate and transfer the image onto paper using a printing press. Rather than using acids, you’ll incise lines into copper with a sharp tool, creating soft, velvety marks that hold ink and print with rich texture and depth. Working from your own imagery, you’ll move through the full process from developing a composition to engraving, inking, and pulling prints. Through demonstrations and guided practice, you’ll learn how line, tone, and texture translate from plate to paper while refining your work over multiple states. You’ll leave with one or more plates and a small edition of original prints.
