Printmaking: Dry Point Etching

Overview

Explore drypoint etching, a direct and tactile printmaking process in which you draw into a metal plate and transfer the image onto paper using a printing press. Rather than using acid, you’ll incise lines into copper with a sharp tool, creating soft, velvety marks that hold ink and print with rich texture and depth. In this one-day workshop with artist Verdiana Patacchini, work in the Art Center’s new printmaking facility as you move through the full process of developing a composition, engraving the plate, inking and pulling prints. Through demonstrations and guided practice, learn how line, tone and texture translate from plate to paper, and leave with an original plate and a small group of prints.
