Try It! Metalsmithing a Copper Dish

Try It! Metalsmithing a Copper Dish

Overview

Learn how a flat sheet of metal becomes a three-dimensional form with one of the most fundamental techniques in metalsmithing: sinking. You’ll start with a flat piece of copper and use hammers and stakes to coax it into a small, shallow dish. No experience needed, the process is intuitive once you get the feel of how the metal moves, and by the end you'll leave with a finished piece you can actually use, something small and solid for a side table or shelf. It's a real introduction to how silversmiths and metalsmiths work, and the foundation for almost everything that comes after it.
