Overview

In a live recording of David Manheim’s hit podcast Dopey: On the Dark Comedy of Drug Addiction, Hunter Biden speaks candidly about the losses that shaped him, the addiction that consumed him, and the business of putting his live back together.

The conversation explores the role of trauma in Hunter’s life; how the loss of his mother and sister in early childhood, and his brother Beau’s death in 2015, accelerated his addiction; and the moment drugs stopped providing relief and began consuming his life.

Now seven years into recovery, Biden talks about what has helped him rebuild: love, service, spiritual practice, painting, and the search for what he calls “purpose with a small p.” Manheim, himself 11 years into recovery, brings the candor, irreverence, and dark humor that have made Dopey a singular voice in conversations about addiction.
