In celebration of 150 years of dedication to artists and community, 92NY exhibited Dance to Belong: A History of Dance at 92NY from March 2024 through August 2025.
Now available online, Dance to Belong: A History of Dance at 92NY testifies to 92NY as a key site in dance and belonging. Photographs, performance programs, artwork, digital media, rare film footage, and other unseen ephemera render 92NY’s crucial place as a preeminent cultural institution located in the heart of New York City.

Curricular Learning Activities
Explore four ready-to-use dance learning activities designed for students in grades 6–12. Inspired by the Dance to Belong: A History of Dance at 92NY online exhibition, these activities invite students to engage critically and creatively with dance history. Students examine archival resources, consider multiple perspectives, and participate in movement-based investigations that connect historical research with choreographic exploration.

This webinar, facilitated by co-curator Ninotchka Bennahum, brings the story of Dance to Belong: A History of Dance at 92NY to life. Inspired by the online exhibition, the webinar draws from rare photographs, programs, film footage, and archival ephemera to trace how dance at 92NY has been deeply intertwined with questions of identity, belonging, and artistic freedom.

Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) Workshop
In this in-person, embodied dance history course, participants will engage with 92NY’s exhibit, Dance to Belong: A History of Dance at 92NY.
Through culturally responsive and inquiry-based learning, this 3-day course will include engagement with archival resources, collaborative dance making opportunities, individual and group reflection, and lesson planning activities. Dance educators will leave with a deeper understanding of 92NY dance history to bring back to their students.
