Given our recent rebrand, we thought it would be useful to provide our updated style guide.

Our full name is The 92nd Street Y, New York.
“The” is always capitalized.

In formal communications, our full name (The 92nd Street Y, New York) should be used in the first instance.

In subsequent appearances, The 92nd Street Y, or our shortened form, 92NY, can be used.

Examples:

The 92nd Street Y, New York, was founded in 1874 by a group of German Jewish professionals. Since then, The 92nd Street Y has held a unique place in New York City as a global hub for culture, connection and enrichment.

Onstage at The 92nd Street Y, New York this spring: Jeremy Isaacs discusses his new biography of Elon Musk, and Hugh Jackman takes us behind the scenes of his smash-hit musical The Music Man. 92NY also welcomes new talent to its online celebration of modern dance, the Future Dance Festival.

Never use the with 92NY.

Also worth mentioning that we are NOT a YMCA, and don’t refer to ourselves as “the Y.” We are a proudly Jewish institution, and were founded as a YMHA (Young Men’s Hebrew Association)!

Pronunciation:

92NY is pronounced nine-two-EN-WHY.

It is not ninety-two-EN-WHY, ninety-second-EN-WHY or any other iteration.
