A Tribute to Seamus Heaney

with Brian Cox, Robert Pinsky, Kevin Young, Paul Muldoon, Mary Jo Salter, Jorie Graham and Peter Sacks

Nov 17, 2025

Join us for an all-star tribute to Nobel Prize winner Seamus Heaney celebrating the first-ever collection of his entire poetic oeuvre, The Poems of Seamus Heaney.

Seamus Heaney was a definitive poet of our time. “By turns mythological and journalistic” (Helen Vendler, The New Yorker), Heaney blended the ancient and the contemporary, the bleak and the bright, the quotidian and the revelatory, with peerless skill — picking up the torch of modern Irish poetry from W.B. Yeats and carrying it into the 21st century. Published in a single volume for the first time, his collected poems are a testament to his unforgettable voice, and to the breadth and beauty of the Nobel laureate's long and brilliant career, from his first book, Death of a Naturalist (1966), to poems written for Human Chain (2010), his final collection.

In this reading and celebration spanning the entirety of his career, hear a group of Heaney’s friends and admirers, themselves some of the finest poets of our time — including surprise guests — as they pay tribute to his seismic influence on a generation of poets that follow in his wake, and the world-making beauty of his verse.
