Overview

DEL Dancing Phonics Workshop

Facilitated by: Dr. Melodee Walker, Daria Fitzgerald, Erin Lally, and Rachael Lieblein-Jurbala

Calling all K–2 classroom teachers, dance educators, administrators, and anyone interested in bringing dance and phonics together! Join the 92NY Dance Education Laboratory (DEL) for an interactive, hands-on workshop exploring how to use DEL Dancing Phonics, an innovative new resource that reinforces foundational reading skills through dance.

DEL Dancing Phonics is a free video series and accompanying Teacher Activity Guide that combines research-based literacy instruction with embodied learning experiences for students in grades K–2. Grounded in the science of reading, research on embodied learning, and DEL’s nationally recognizes approach to dance education, the project uses dance, imagination, and creative expression to strengthen reading-enabling phonological awareness and phonics skills.

Experience the 10-video series, which takes students from a school blacktop to outer space, museums, and rainforests, bringing reading skills to life through dance. Together, we’ll explore the research behind the approach, participate in sample activities, and discover how to use the videos and Teacher Activities to facilitate rich, movement-based literacy experiences with your students.

You’ll leave with free, ready-to-use resources and practical strategies to bring joyful, evidence-based movement and literacy learning to your K–2 classroom!
