Steve Earle, one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of his generation, has spent four decades erasing the distance between a great song and a great story.
The Grammy winner, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer, novelist, and actor joins us for a musical performance at the next installment of Muldoon’s Picnic with bestselling author Christina Baker Kline and acclaimed poet Jana Prikryl, hosted by Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Muldoon and house band Rogue Oliphant.
From the landmark albums Guitar Town and Copperhead Road to his inspired interpretations of his friend and mentor Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle has built one of American music’s great bodies of work: steeped in country and folk traditions, politically sharp, and powered by masterful storytelling. He is joined by #1 New York Times bestselling novelist Christina Baker Kline, whose books — including the phenomenon Orphan Train, The Exiles, and her new novel, The Foursome — have reached readers in more than 40 countries; poet and critic Jana Prikryl, senior editor at The New York Review of Books, who in her new book of poems, The Channel, “joins Keats, Dickinson, and Berryman among the literary heirs of Shakespeare” (Srikanth Reddy).
Presiding over it all is Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon, bringing together three distinctive storytellers for an evening of songs, poems, conversation, and the unpredictable pleasures that have made Muldoon’s Picnic unlike any other event in New York. Join us for an evening that thrillingly blurs the lines between song, poem, and story.
