Long Island City Art Tour: Isamu Noguchi Museum & Socrates Sculpture Park with Cathie Behrend

Overview

Discover the vibrant art scene in Long Island City with public art expert Cathie Behrend.

Our visit begins at the Isamu Noguchi Museum, a serene space dedicated to the life and work of the renowned Japanese American sculptor. We’ll explore the museum’s newest exhibition, No Ordinary Light: Akari at 75, celebrating the 75th anniversary of Noguchi’s iconic Akari light sculptures and his extraordinary exploration of light, form and material.

From there, we’ll take a short walk to Socrates Sculpture Park, a dynamic outdoor museum on the East River waterfront. We’ll encounter Homecoming: Chakaia Booker, featuring the acclaimed sculptor known for transforming industrial materials into powerful, expressive works, as well as Artists Choose Artists: The Socrates Annual Fellowship Anniversary, which brings together site-specific projects by emerging artists in celebration of Socrates’ longstanding fellowship program.

Together, these distinctive exhibitions offer an engaging look at sculpture, experimentation and contemporary public art in one of New York City’s most creative neighborhoods.

Guided tour and entry fee included.
