What does it mean to choose how we live in the aftermath of unimaginable loss?
The Choice, a documentary directed by award-winning filmmaker John David Coles, explores the extraordinary human capacity for resilience, the difficult work of healing, and the possibility of finding freedom even in the wake of profound trauma.
Inspired by the bestselling memoir of Holocaust survivor and renowned psychologist Dr. Edith Eger, the film follows three women whose lives illuminate the enduring impact of suffering and the transformative power of choosing how to respond to it. Through the experiences of Eger, Israeli mother Iris Haim, and former hostage Sapir Cohen, The Choice explores how pain can reverberate across generations, and how courage, connection, and the decision to keep living can open a path toward healing.
Following the screening, Rabbi David Ingber moderates a conversation with Coles, Iris Haim, mother of hostage Yotam Haim, and Eger’s daughter, Marianne Engle. Together, they ask: how do we live with tragedy without being defined by it? What makes healing possible after trauma? And how do we find the strength to choose hope in the face of suffering? Don’t miss this intimate and moving exploration of grief, resilience, and the extraordinary human capacity to find meaning in the wake of unimaginable loss.
