At 92NY’s School of Music, children’s music classes begin in early childhood and grow with each student. Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, 92NY offers a warm, supportive path into music for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, children, and young teens.
Families may begin with The Music Room, a joyful introduction to music for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, then continue into Play Move, Groove!, Xylophone, Young Musicians: First Instruments, beginner piano, guitar, drums, voice, chorus, musical theater, and more.
Early Childhood Music
For young children, music begins with listening, moving, singing, rhythm, play, and imagination. 92NY’s early childhood music classes help little ones build a natural relationship with music while developing confidence, coordination, focus, and social skills.
First Instruments
As children grow, classes such as Play, Move, Groove!, Xylophone, and Young Musicians: First Instruments help prepare them for more structured musical study. Through movement, rhythm, listening, exploration, and age-appropriate instrument play, children build the skills and confidence that support a successful transition into beginner group classes.
Beginner Group Music Classes
When children are ready for focused instrument study, typically around age 5 and up, beginner group classes offer an accessible way to learn with peers and begin building strong musical foundations.
Students can explore piano, guitar, drums, voice, chorus, and musical theater while developing rhythm, melody, technique, listening skills, and ensemble experience in a small, encouraging group setting.
Group Classes and Private Lessons
Every child’s musical path is different. Some children thrive in group classes, where they can enjoy the energy of making music with others. Others may be ready for private lessons with one-on-one instruction tailored to their interests, goals, and pace.
92NY helps families choose the right next step based on age, readiness, interest, and family preference. Group classes can be a wonderful, accessible first step towards beginning an instrument, while private lessons are available for children ready for more individualized study.
