Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice

Overview

It is a truth universally acknowledged that Pride and Prejudice never goes out of style.

Join us for an episode screening of the new Netflix adaptation, then stay for a conversation with screenwriter Dolly Alderton and stars Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden, moderated by One Nightstand host and Bustle Editor-in-Chief Charlotte Owen. Together, they’ll discuss what it takes to reimagine one of literature’s most cherished love stories.

Jane Austen’s immortal comedy of manners and romantic misjudgments gets a dazzling new life in Alderton’s new six-part series for Netflix. Across her bestselling books, Alderton tackles the messy mechanics of modern love — attraction and miscommunication, friendship and family, the gulf between what we feel and what we manage to say. Her acclaimed novel Good Material finds both comedy and pathos in the stories we tell ourselves about love — preoccupations that make her a keen adapter of Austen’s own sharp-eyed understanding of the heart. Her new series brings this sensibility to the world of the Bennets, approaching the novel not as a period piece to be preserved under glass, but as a funny, complicated, deeply felt story about people trying and failing to understand one another, anchored by Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden’s finely tuned performances as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.

Following an advance episode screening, hear Alderton, Corrin, and Lowden with Owen take us inside the making of the series: from bringing a classic novel to the screen to the cast’s crackling onscreen chemistry, stories from the set, and more.
