As New Yorkers prepare to choose their governor this November, what are the forces shaping the race — and the future of the state?
As part of our ongoing State of New York series, 92NY invites candidates for city and state elections to present their vision for New York’s next chapter in a conversation with 92NY CEO Seth Pinsky.
First elected Nassau County Executive in 2021, Bruce Blakeman has made public safety, taxes, affordability, and opposition to a number of Albany policies central to his tenure. Before becoming County Executive, he served as a Hempstead Town Councilman, a Nassau County legislator and presiding officer, and a commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Now, as he campaigns for governor against incumbent Kathy Hochul, Blakeman has put forward an agenda focused on lowering taxes and the cost of living, changing state energy policy, and pursuing a more aggressive approach to crime and public safety.
In a wide-ranging conversation, Blakeman and Pinsky will discuss what Blakeman sees as the successes and challenges of his tenure in Nassau County, what he believes New York’s government is getting right — and wrong — and his vision for the future of our state.
Seating is limited and will be first-come, first-served.
Part of 92NY’s commitment to convening substantive conversations about the people and ideas shaping public life, this program does not constitute an endorsement of any candidate or campaign.

Elected in 2021, County Executive Bruce Blakeman has kept his promise to eliminate $150 million in planned tax hikes from the prior administration while implementing fiscal restraints that led to multiple Wall Street credit rating upgrades—saving taxpayers money every time the County issues bonds for road repaving and infrastructure improvements.
With cashless bail laws and the national border crisis impacting our region, County Executive Blakeman hired hundreds of new police officers and secured funding to increase patrols. While crime surges in New York City, Nassau is now ranked the safest County in America by U.S. News & World Report.
Blakeman has also taken a firm stand against radical progressive policies. He signed an Executive Order ensuring Nassau will never become a sanctuary county. Under his leadership, no migrant buses have entered Nassau.
A strong advocate for parental rights in education, Blakeman signed New York State’s first Executive Order restoring parents’ rights to send their children to school without masks. He also took action to protect women’s sports, signing an Executive Order to prevent biological males from competing in female leagues.
Blakeman has demonstrated unwavering support for Israel and the Jewish community, establishing a bipartisan Task Force to Combat Antisemitism. Additionally, he has invested millions to combat illegal drugs and addiction.
Prior to serving as County Executive, Blakeman was appointed by the Governor as a Commissioner of the Port Authority in the aftermath of 9/11, working to secure airports, bridges, tunnels, and ports. A former Presiding Officer of the County Legislature, Blakeman cut $40 million in wasteful spending, reduced salaries of political appointees, preserved open space, funded downtown business revitalization, and established Hewlett House, a life-saving breast cancer resource center.
