High Holidays Main Services

This year we look forward to celebrating the Jewish New Year of 5784 all together once again to be led by “our” clergy, Rabbi Elka Abrahamson and music director Elana Arian.

As always, High Holiday worship services will provide us an extraordinary opportunity for reflection, self-assessment, prayers of gratitude and time for memory.

Thanks to the Rabbi Peter Rubinstein Fund for the Jewish Future, we are pleased to be able to make subscriptions to all the services, together with tickets to individual services, available at affordable rates.

At this time, we are offering access to all Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services for $299. Tickets for each individual holiday service are $95 apiece.

Each year we create a Book of Remembrance for our Yom Kippur services to memorialize loved ones.

Rabbi Elka Abrahamson

As president of the Wexner Foundation, the nation’s preeminent interdenominational training institute for Jewish leaders and public service leaders in Israel, Rabbi Abrahamson understands and is committed to serving and celebrating the broad spectrum of beliefs, traditions and practices that are represented in American Jewry—a commitment that has always been a hallmark of 92Y’s High Holiday services. Ordained at Hebrew Union College—Jewish Institute of Religion Rabbi Abrahamson is with us for her sixth year. She served pulpits in both California and Minnesota before serving in various leadership roles at the Foundation. Known for her dynamic speaking and teaching, she recently received the Ben Mandelkorn Distinguished Service Award, one of the highest honors in Jewish communal life. She lives in Columbus, Ohio where the Wexner Foundation’s main office is located.

Elana Arian

A composer, multi-instrumentalist, and prayer leader, Elana Arian is one of the leading voices in contemporary Jewish music. Elana’s music is part of Jewish life across the globe, and her compositions are sung in spiritual communities, summer camps, and synagogues from Louisville to London, from Chicago to the Czech Republic, and everywhere in between. Elana just released her fourth album of original music, The Other Side of Fear, and her compositions have been published in countless Transcontinental Music collections. Elana serves proudly on the faculty of Hava Nashira (Oconomowoc, WI), the Wexner Heritage Foundation (Aspen, CO), Shirei Chagiga (London, England), and as an instructor at the Hebrew Union College in New York, where she teaches in the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music. Elana has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Tanglewood, and perhaps most memorably, five separate appearances at the (Obama) White House. 

Raised on equal parts Mozart, Mingus, and Mitchell, Elana studied conducting and violin, jazz guitar, and songwriting at Yale. She has appeared on NPR’s Soundcheck, as well as on PBS’ Finding Your Roots. A sought-after studio musician, Elana maintains a busy recording schedule, working with such varied artists as Peter Yarrow, the Dirty Projectors, and Catie Curtis. She held the guitar chair on both the smash revival of Sweet Charity starring Tony award-winner, Sutton Foster, and on Kristin Chenoweth’s acclaimed For the Girls, and has worked on multiple instruments in the pit orchestras of Broadway shows. She lives in New York with her wife, Julia, and their two daughters, Maya and Acadia.
