What does the Adult Dance Program offer?

We offer a wide range of drop-in and session-based dance classes for adults of all levels, from absolute beginners to experienced dancers.

Our program provides a warm, inclusive environment designed to support adult learners at any stage. We also host social dance events, such as parties and practicas, to help build community.

An Adult Dance Showcase is held during the Fall semester.

What types of classes do you offer?

Drop In Classes
Ongoing weekly classes that can be joined at any time. You may pay in advance through our website or in person at the Dance Center Desk. When you arrive, please stop by the Dance Center Desk to check in.

All drop-in classes are $22 per class, or you may use a 10-Class Card.

6 Week Courses
Progressive, closed-enrollment classes designed for consistent group progression, typically for absolute beginners.

These courses are not eligible for trials or 10-Class Cards.

Full Semester Classes
Classes offered during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

Workshops
Special one-time sessions offered occasionally.

What is a 10 Class Card?

A 10-Class Card allows you to take 10 classes, either through full-semester registration classes or drop-in classes. It offers flexibility if you know you will need to miss classes during the semester or prefer to attend classes on a more flexible schedule.

Choose Your 10-Class Card

  • Dance Class Card 10 Pack | 6-Month Expiration: $230
  • Dance Class Card 10 Pack | 12-Month Expiration: $250

Choose the expiration period that best fits your schedule. The expiration period begins on the date of purchase.

How It Works

  1. Purchase your card: Choose between the 6-month or 12-month expiration option.
  2. Download the 92NY Connect app: Log in using your 92NY account credentials.
  3. Book and track your classes: Reserve classes in advance through the app and keep track of your remaining class credits.
  4. Attend class: You can also show up without booking in advance and let your instructor know you are using your 10-Class Card.

Please note: 10-Class Cards cannot be used for 6-Week Courses

Are there any discounts available?

  • Himan Brown Members receive a 20% discount on dance classes.
  • Nexus Members receive a 10% discount on dance classes.

These discounts apply only to 6-Week Courses and full-semester classes. They do not apply to 10-Class Cards.

Do you offer trial classes?

Yes, we offer trial classes during the first two weeks of each semester. Most classes are eligible for a $20 trial, except for 6-Week Courses.

If you decide to register for the full semester, the $20 trial fee will be applied toward your tuition. Please note that trial credit cannot be applied to a 10-Class Card.

Trial students should arrive 15 minutes early to complete payment at the Dance Center Desk on the 2nd Floor of the North Building.

What is the Adult Dance Showcase?

The Adult Dance Showcase takes place at the end of the Fall semester and is an exciting opportunity for our adult dancers to perform in a professional setting. The showcase is typically held in Kaufman Concert Hall or Buttenwieser Hall.

Please note that not all classes participate in the showcase. If your class decides to participate, performing is completely optional. Students are always welcome to continue taking the class even if they choose not to perform!

Can I join a class mid-semester?

For drop-in classes, yes, you may join at any time.

For 6-Week Courses, enrollment closes after the first week unless approved by the Harkness team.

During the Fall semester, mid-semester enrollment is limited due to showcase preparation. Exceptions may be made with instructor approval.

I know I will be missing a few classes this semester. Should I register for the full semester or purchase a 10-Class Card?

A 10-Class Card is typically the best option if you know you will miss a few classes, as it offers greater flexibility. You can use the card for eligible full-semester registration classes or drop-in classes, and choose between a 6-month or 12-month expiration period.

During the Fall semester, if you do not plan to attend consistently or do not intend to participate in the showcase, you may want to wait until the Spring semester for a more consistent class experience, since some Fall classes focus on showcase preparation.

For first-time dancers who do not plan to participate in the showcase, we recommend beginning in the Spring semester or taking our drop-in classes.

Do I need a partner for social dance classes?

No partner is needed. Partners rotate during class, and solo dancers are always welcome.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, whatever you feel comfortable dancing in.

Appropriate footwear may include barefoot, socks without grips, jazz shoes, ballet shoes, sneakers, or tap shoes, depending on the class.

If you are taking a trial class, we recommend waiting to purchase specialized attire until you decide to continue.

Can I take more than one trial class?

Yes! Students may take up to two trial classes per class during the first two weeks of the semester.

A third trial may be granted with Harkness approval.

What if I miss a class?

Make-up classes are only offered if a class is canceled by us.

If you miss a class, you may ask your instructor whether you can attend another class they teach as a courtesy make-up, though this is not guaranteed.

Do you have scholarship opportunities for dance classes?

Yes, we have scholarship opportunities available for all children’s and adult dance classes.
