“The most original music thinker of our time” – The New Yorker on Steve Reich
Steve Reich’s epic, landmark work Drumming made minimalism pulse, shimmer, and feel irresistibly alive. Reich’s study of Ghanaian drumming that inspired his 1971 work created a new American musical language, helping to establish minimalism as something physical, hypnotic, and communal, and influencing genres from electronic music to rock. The Grammy Award-winning Sō Percussion has made Drumming their own. The Boston Herald called the ensemble’s recording of the work “definitive.” Their performances – including one at the Big Ears festival last spring – are monumental events. As the world celebrates the 90th birthday of a master of modern music, 92NY is thrilled to present Sō Percussion and guests in the exclusive NYC performance of Steve Reich’s mesmerizing, exhilarating masterwork.
